January was a crazy rainy month, which is so odd for South Carolina. After two weeks of grey skies, I started thinking it was going to be raining for the rest of my life. All I wanted to do was curl up on the couch with a warm blanket and watch time pass. It was totally depressing. I mean, like, our living room was almost totally dark by 3pm. It was just awful. We finally had a day of sunshine and I was so excited about the sun finally coming out, I figured it would be a great day to shoot my 10.

Oliver | 7 months

It has been 7 months since Oliver was evicted from my belly. He is quite possibly the sweetest, roundest, happiest baby on the planet. He has two little teeth. Loves to eat pureed peas. And his favorite toy is a crinkly bag of baby wipes.

There are many ways to Bless a loved one: make a meal, fold a load of laundry, give a hug, pray. I am so thankful God has given me a way to Bless my friends the Coopers through taking these pictures for them. My hope is that they express the contagious joy the Coopers have deep in their hearts despite truly difficult circumstances. It is not the kind of joy that comes from pulling one’s self up by one’s boot straps. Is the kind of joy that can only come from God himself. xoxoSo we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.” Corinthians 4:16-18

10 on 10 | January

January’s 10 on 10! I realized this month that my first 10 on 10 was taken just a couple of weeks after Oliver was born. It is exciting to know I will have a whole year of these posts by his first birthday! This month’s 10 took place on the first day of the year. It was pretty uneventful. Lazing the day away with bunk-bed fort building, $5 pizzas and playing army men in the yard with neighbors.

10 on 10 | December

So last month I took a little break from my 10 on 10 project (see past months here). I am here to tell ya, the older Oliver gets, the crazier life becomes. It is amazing how I can be so insanely busy all day yet feel like I accomplish nothing. This month hasn’t been any less hectic, but I did my best to tote my camera around all day Sunday. I decided to shoot one of my favorite days of the year… the day we get our Christmas tree. I am not super obsessed with traditions… except for this day: buy tree, eat Chinese food, bake cookies and make hot cocoa, watch “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown” whilst eating baked cookies and hot cocoa, and decorate the tree. And of course overload on cheesy Christmas music. I love it.

This year our plans went off without a hitch. Well, er, except for the part where the tree slid off the roof of our car onto a VERY busy road and my husband had to run out and drag it to safety. We then scratched our head for several minutes trying to figure out how to get the sucker home with no rope and a car full of children. Then, an angel in a red mini van stopped and totally hooked us up with whatever he could find in the back of his van and our tree made it home safe and sound. Whew!

i did it again… posted more than 10. my bad.

I just want a picture of me with my kids…
I am always behind the camera, never in front of it…
If anything ever happened to me my kids would have no idea what their mom looked like…

These are all things I hear photographers say when they are having professional pictures taken of their own families. While definitely valid reasons, hearing it sort of makes me feel bad for the photographer… like you are basically a self timer with a heartbeat. But when Julia Wade and I planned this session she commented, I literally cannot wait to see how your eye sees our little world. She wasn’t just looking for a warm body to snap a couple of in-focus pictures of her family, Julia was looking for an artist to use her life as a canvas to create something beautiful. When I read that I felt challenged and inspired. It made me excited to try to tell her story.

Which, I guess isn’t really saying much… he sleeps for about 45-minutes then wants to practice rolling.
